Who we are

Mission Statement

At Phoenix First, our purpose is simple. We desire to be a Great Commission community (Matt. 28:19-20) that glorifies God by living intentionally and loving unconditionally (1 Corinthians 13; Micah 6:8).

Core Values

Love. We believe that God is love. The purpose of being connected and living transformed lives is to display the love of Jesus toward others and for our community. Therefore, we take Jesus’ commission (call) to go seriously as we encounter and love others. (Mark 12:28-31; Deuteronomy 6:4-5; 2 Peter 1:3-11)

Connect. We believe that at His very core Jesus was relational, His mission was to connect all people to God. Like Jesus and the early church, we strive to live life in relationship with God and each other. This is done by intentionally and faithfully serving our community. (John 14:12-14)

Transform. We believe that God redeems us and restores His image within us. Transformation is the process of becoming more and more like Jesus, we call this Christian Holiness (Galatians 5:16-26; 2 Peter 3:18). Our desire is to be transformed from the inside out as we grow in relationship with God and each other. (Ephesians 2:10; Romans 12:1-2)

How to accept Christ

The Bible tells us that there is only one name under heaven whereby people might be saved, and that is the name of Jesus, the only Son of our Heavenly Father. He is the only sacrifice for our sins and the only salvation for our soul. He is the only solution to our sin problem and gives us the only answer to the problem of what to do with our sin. Jesus is our only source of hope. You see, Jesus is just one man who changed the lives of all people, for all time, and for all eternity. Just one man – His name is Jesus.

Giving our heart to Jesus is the most important decision any of us will ever make. There are three things we need to do in order to give our heart to Jesus:

A – Acknowledge First we need to admit to Jesus that we are a sinner. We are all sinners and that sin separates us from God. Romans 3:23 states, “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”.

C – Confess Second, we need to confess our sin. Romans 10:9-10 tells us, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” When we confess our sin, we are agreeing with God that we are a sinner and that only He can save us.

T – Trust Third is to trust in Jesus by faith to save us. The word “trust” is a wonderful word. It means that we accept what God has said and believe in our heart that God raised Jesus from the dead after He died on the cross for our sins.

The Bible says that when we trust Jesus as our savior He takes upon himself the sin of the world. That is exactly what happened when God presented Jesus on the cross to us. Jesus took upon Himself my sin and your sin, and when He died, the sin of the world died with Him. When you say, “Lord Jesus, I repent of my sin. By faith, I accept you into my heart,” you receive what Jesus has already done for you upon the cross, and you receive complete and absolute forgiveness. Do you know Him?

If you would like to accept Jesus as your Savior, you can pray a prayer similar to this:

"Dear Lord Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross just for me. I know that you love me very much. I admit to you that I am a sinner and confess my sin to you. Please come into my heart and save me as I repent of my sin. I confess that you alone are Lord and I believe that God raised you from the dead. I trust in you by faith. Now, based on the Bible, I thank you for coming into my heart. I believe that you have saved me and written my name in God’s book in Heaven. From this moment on I will never doubt your Word. In Jesus name, Amen."

Nazarene Core Values

A Christian People

As members of the Church Universal, we join with all true believers in proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus Christ and in affirming the historic Trinitarian creeds and beliefs of the Christian faith. We value our Wesleyan-Holiness heritage and believe it to be a way of understanding the faith that is true to Scripture, reason, tradition, and experience.

We are united with all believers in proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We believe that in divine love God offers to all people forgiveness of sins and restored relationship. In being reconciled to God, we believe that we are also to be reconciled to one another, loving each other as we have been loved by God and forgiving each other as we have been forgiven by God. We believe that our life together is to exemplify the character of Christ. We look to Scripture as the primary source of spiritual truth confirmed by reason, tradition, and experience.

Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Church, which, as the Nicene Creed tells us, is one, holy, universal, and apostolic. In Jesus Christ and through the Holy Spirit, God the Father offers forgiveness of sin and reconciliation to all the world. Those who respond to God’s offer in faith become the people of God. Having been forgiven and reconciled in Christ, we forgive and are reconciled to one another. In this way, we are Christ’s Church and Body and reveal the unity of that Body. As the one Body of Christ, we have “one Lord, one faith, one baptism.” We affirm the unity of Christ’s Church and strive in all things to preserve it. (Ephesians 4:5, 3).

A Holiness People

God, who is holy, calls us to a life of holiness. We believe that the Holy Spirit seeks to do in us a second work of grace, called by various terms including “entire sanctification” and “baptism with the Holy Spirit”-cleansing us from all sin, renewing us in the image of God, empowering us to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves, and producing in us the character of Christ. Holiness in the life of believers is most clearly understood as Christlikeness.

Because we are called by Scripture and drawn by grace to worship God and to love Him with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves, we commit ourselves fully and completely to God, believing that we can be “sanctified wholly,” as a second crisis experience. We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts, cleanses, fills, and empowers us as the grace of God transforms us day by day into a people of love, spiritual discipline, ethical and moral purity, compassion, and justice. It is the work of the Holy Spirit that restores us in the image of God and produces in us the character of Christ.

We believe in God the Father, the Creator, who calls into being what does not exist. We once were not, but God called us into being, made us for himself, and fashioned us in His own image. We have been commissioned to bear the image of God: “I am the LORD . . . your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy”

A Missional People

We are a sent people, responding to the call of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to go into all the world, witnessing to the Lordship of Christ and participating with God in the building of the Church and the extension of His kingdom (Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 6:1).

Our mission begins in worship, ministers to the world in evangelism and compassion, encourages believers toward Christian maturity through discipleship, and prepares women and men for Christian service through Christian higher education.
